Cascadia Honored with Community Service Grant
Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College is proud to recently receive
a $4,000 supplemental grant from Learn and Serve America and the Washington
Campus Compact, to continue sponsoring student community service projects. This
grant is in conjunction with a $10,000 grant the college received from Learn and
Serve America in September 2007.
Money from the grants is being put back into the college’s
student learning programs. Student
Learning encourages students to explore ways they can give back to the community
and be involved in grass-roots activism, while simultaneously earning college
credit.
Currently, a portion of the new $4,000 grant is being used
to support Cascadia’s upcoming Mock Presidential Election on Friday, February
22, from 4:00 pm - 6:00pm. As part of the election, four students will engage in
a mock debate, as they take on the positions and personas of the top two
candidates from each major political party (Senators Barack Obama, Hillary
Clinton, John McCain and Governor Mike Huckabee).
Students will then vote on the candidates and also learn how to register
for the real thing in November.
