CASCADIA STUDENT RECOGNIZED AT THE ALL-WASHINGTON ACADEMIC TEAM CEREMONY

Governor Christine Gregoire was the principal speaker at the event, and presented medallions to the students commemorating their selection.
“I am honored to receive this recognition,” declared Mueller. “It was very exciting to meet Governor Gregoire. I love Cascadia, and I was proud to represent the college at the ceremony.”
Mueller, 20, has earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.92 (out of 4) at Cascadia. She will graduate in June with an Associate’s Degree in Integrated Studies, and will transfer to a university to earn a degree in communication and advertising. She is a talented volleyball athlete and has been active in student activities at Cascadia.
Annually, community and technical colleges in Washington nominate one student from each institution to join the All-Washington Academic Team. Students receive recognition for academic excellence and scholarships from sponsoring organizations. This year, scholarships will include $250 from KeyBank and $500 from the Northwest Education Loan Association (NELA). Many colleges and universities offer additional scholarships to those who choose to attend their schools.
“Whitney has demonstrated the ability and discipline to succeed academically and the leadership skills to help others succeed,” said Dr. Brinton Sprague, Interim President of Cascadia. “I am confident that she will find many ways to contribute in whatever field she chooses to enter.”
The students, their families, and the presidents of their colleges attended, as well as members of the legislature. The date of the ceremony coincided with the Governor’s birthday, and she was presented with a birthday cake by the Culinary Arts students of South Puget Sound Community College.
