CASCADIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SELECTS DR. WILLIAM CHRISTOPHER AS PRESIDENT

Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College Board of Trustees, at a special meeting on May 11, 2005, announced that it has hired Dr. William Christopher to fill the position of president of the college. Under the terms of the agreement with the Board, Dr. Christopher will earn $160,000 and will assume leadership of the college on July 1, 2005.

“This candidate has distinguished himself as an extraordinarily skillful, knowledgeable and caring leader,” said Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Gloria Mitchell. “Those who work with him and under his supervision have given Dr. Christopher the strongest possible recommendations. It is with pride and confidence that we welcome him to Cascadia.”

Dr. Christopher is currently President of the Rock Creek Campus of Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon, where he has been since 1998. Prior to that time, he was the Dean for Instruction at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington. He also served on the science faculty at Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington and at Southern Nevada Community College in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead this new and innovative institution,” said Dr. Christopher. “I am honored to be able to join with the excellent faculty and staff here to serve students in this vibrant and growing area.”

The presidential search process at the college began in January of this year. Students, employees, and community members have taken part in the selection.

Dr. Brinton Sprague will continue serving as Interim President of the college until Dr. Christopher assumes the post. “It has been a privilege to serve as interim president for a year,” said Dr. Sprague. “I am sure that Dr. Christopher will find Cascadia’s faculty and staff to be collaborative and caring professionals who will welcome his leadership. I plan to return to teaching in the fall, and look forward to continuing my association with Cascadia.”
