Two Films and Renown Panel Will Speak to “Writing the Wartime Experience” at Cascadia Community College

Bothell, WA - The Cascadia Community College Student Activities Board, the Creative Arts Club, and the Global Human Rights Alliance are proud to present a very special event: “Writing the Wartime Experience,” on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 in the North Creek Events Center, from 1:00pm to 3:30pm.

The public is invited to attend, and there is no charge. The event will begin with a reception and light refreshments at 1:00pm. Following introductions, an extended trailer for the full-length movie Voices in Wartime will be shown, and then the one-hour documentary Operation Homecoming (PBS version, uncensored).

The panel discussion will include Andy Himes, Producer of Voices in Wartime; Ed Hrivnak, Captain, US Air Force; Adam Hyman, Co-Producer of Operation Homecoming; and a yet-to-be-named Cascadia student. The panel will be moderated by Cascadia faculty member Jared Leising.

About the films

Voices in Wartime sharply etches the experience of war through powerful images and the words of poets - unknown and world-famous. Soldiers, journalists, historians and experts on combat interviewed in Voices in Wartime add diverse perspectives on war's effects on soldiers, civilians and society.

Operation Homecoming explores the firsthand accounts of American troops through their own words. The film is built upon a project created by the National Endowment for the Arts to gather the writing of soldiers and their families who have participated in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Through interviews and dramatic readings, the film transforms selections from the writing into an examination of the experiences of the men and women in America’s armed forces and provides a broader look at the universal themes of war literature.
