Breakfast Raises More Than $40,000 for Cascadia Community College

Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College Foundation announced its third annual Make Dreams Come True Fundraising Breakfast raised more than $40,000. Money raised at the event will help provide scholarships, grants and short-term loans for Cascadia students, and enhance college programs and services.

“Quality higher education is an extremely vital resource in this region,” said Linda Hendrickson, Executive Director of the Cascadia Community College Foundation. “We are fortunate that so many generous individuals and businesses have joined us in support of the outstanding students and programs found here at Cascadia.”

Close to 140 guests attended the breakfast in the North Creek Events Center on the joint campus of Cascadia Community College and UW Bothell. Keynote speaker P.S. Reilly, President and CEO of Athena Company, eloquently described how environmentally minded community colleges, like Cascadia, will be needed to prepare graduates for careers in sustainability and green technologies. A highlight was hearing recent Cascadia graduate Shirley Smith describe how a scholarship from the Cascadia Community College Foundation helped her overcome tremendous obstacles in pursuit of her dreams.  Smith is enrolled at UW Bothell, working toward a career as an advocate for women in need.   Television personality Grant Goodeve emceed the event for the second year in a row.

Cascadia Community College Foundation’s mission is to support the Cascadia community of lifelong learners by providing scholarships, developing relationships, and connecting resources.  Created in 2000, the Foundation has grown from a fledgling 4-member board of directors that raised nearly $25,000 in its first full year of operations to an energetic board of 19 directors with a budget over $180,000 this year.

Donations to the Foundation are accepted year-round.  For more information please call  425.352.8840 or e-mail: foundation@cascadia.edu.
