International Education Week Activities Will Include Speaker from Rwanda

Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College and University of Washington Bothell will sponsor an international speaker to celebrate International Education Week. Jean-Marie Kamatali, a Rwandan native and a speaker from the Scholars At Risk Network, will discuss global human rights issues and other topics.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 16, at 7:00pm in the North Creek Events Center on the shared campus in Bothell, Washington. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge. The presentation is the capstone event for a week of activity and is sponsored by Cascadia's International Club, Cascadia Student Government, Cascadia Activities Board, and University of Washington Bothell Intercultural Club.

Dr. Jean-Marie Kamatali, originally from Rwanda, is a PhD in Law and an internationally-recognized speaker. He is a law professor and has published articles on ethnic conflict, genocide, women’s rights and the international criminal tribunal in both U.S and European law journals. In 2003, he co-authored a book on the justice system in Rwanda and recently completed a second book on state development in Africa, focusing on Rwanda. Kamatali has been a consultant to international organizations, including FAO, UNICEF, the Danish Center for Human Rights and Lux-Development.
