Education Assistance Foundation Awards $10,000 to Cascadia Community College Foundation for Low-income Housing Resident Outreach
Bothell, WA - The Cascadia Community College Foundation has been awarded a $10,000 grant for its Public Housing Outreach Project from the Education Assistance Foundation (EAF) of Seattle. The grant will support a program that has already proven successful. The program conducts outreach to King County Housing Authority (KCHA) residents in order to inform and connect them with the educational opportunities and support resources. The long-term goal is helping residents attain economic self-sufficiency and to increase the economic vitality of the region.
“We are grateful for the Education Assistance Foundation support,” noted Linda Hendrickson, Executive Director of the Cascadia Community College Foundation. “I believe the EAF recognized our program’s goals are consistent with their goals to improve access to postsecondary education and encourage students to complete their undergraduate degrees. We are both very committed to making college success a reality in Washington state.”
Project staff from Cascadia Community College work with the King County Housing Authority (KCHA) to serve residents of seven housing communities totaling 197 housing units in Woodinville, Kirkland, and Redmond. Specifically, Outreach Project staff inform residents about education and employment services and help them set education and career goals. Further assistance is provided to explore options for financial assistance to pursue education or training, identify job leads, find childcare, or overcome transportation obstacles.
Several other philanthropic organizations also contribute support to the project, including the Verizon Foundation, the Harvest Foundation, Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation, and the Cascadia Community College Foundation.
Cascadia Community College, from its campus in Bothell and at satellite locations, offers transfer degrees, certificates, and adult basic skills such as English as a second language and GED courses.
