Cascadia Community College Students Earn National Leadership Awards
Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College Foundation raised the seed money for a new endowment with an event that combined recognition for past contributions with an ambitious plan for the future. More than 75 guests attended the event at the Columbia Winery in Woodinville last week that raised nearly $24,000 for an endowment for the Excellence in Teaching, Learning & Service Faculty Award.
“We are extremely gratified by our community’s generous donations to this endowment. Proceeds from the endowment will stimulate and support the innovative work of faculty at Cascadia long into the future,” said Foundation Board Chair Linda Holman, Community Relations Manager for Univar, USA.
Called “Honoring our beginning…Supporting our future,” the event featured Persian sitar music by Cascadia faculty member Dr. Iraj Paydar and a video presentation created by two current students, Linda Church and Allen Berendzen, to highlight the college’s first five years.
The Foundation’s “Cornerstone Donors,” those who have contributed significantly to its rapid growth concurrent with the start-up of the college, were recognized. Dave Asher, member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation and a Kirkland City Council member, passionately encouraged attendees to support the endowment, and audience members responded enthusiastically.
All of the funds raised for the endowment will be matched by a dedicated state fund that encourages partnerships between community colleges and the communities they serve.
