
Applying for Admission
Adult members of the community 18 years or older, or those with a high school
diploma or GED, are eligible to enroll in courses at Cascadia Community College.
There are several exceptions of the enrollment eligibility at Cascadia, please
refer to the Special Admissions section online or in the college catalog where the allowable exceptions are listed.
Students may begin their education at Cascadia Community College in summer,
fall, winter or spring quarter. Since the registration dates are
determined by the date of completion of the matriculation process, students are
encouraged to apply for admission as early as possible. All students
seeking a degree or certificate must matriculate.
There are different steps in the admissions and registration process
depending on what student type you are. Please read through the student
type definitions below, identify what student type you are, and proceed to complete
the appropriate "student type" admission and registration steps.
International Students
must undergo a slightly different admission process due to immigration
regulations. All international students must submit a signed international
student application, proof of completion of secondary studies, proof of English
proficiency (if applicable), financial documentation, and the $50 application

New Student - Degree Seeking (Matriculated)
A student with no prior credits earned from a previous college or university
who is seeking a degree or certificate at Cascadia Community College is a New
Student - Matriculated. See "How to Get Started
at Cascadia Community College" "Admission and Registration" steps.
Note: For advising purposes, students who have attended high school within
five years of the date they will start attending Cascadia are strongly
encouraged to submit final high school transcripts to
the front counter in Kodiak
Corner
Transfer Students - Degree Seeking (Matriculated)
A new student who is seeking a degree or certificate at Cascadia Community
College and has earned credits from previous college(s) or university(ies) is a Transfer
Student.
Credits earned at colleges and universities that are recognized by a regional
accreditation association are accepted by Cascadia Community College.
Transcripts are evaluated and credits are officially transferred after
completion of 12 credits at Cascadia. A
student who has earned a four-year degree is not required to submit transcripts
unless credits from previous colleges are to be used toward a Cascadia degree.
However, transcripts may be required for registration in English composition,
Reading or Mathematics. Cascadia accepts no more than five (5.0) credits
of "D" level work.
Transfer students must:
- Apply for admission: (This does not apply to international students.

- Send official transcript(s) from previous colleges or universities to Cascadia's
Kodiak Corner (in a sealed envelope)
- Complete a Transcript Evaluation Request form
available online or in Kodiak
Corner and submit to the front counter
- Determine placement levels for English and
Math (if needed). Note: If math grades or placement test scores
are more than twelve months old, students must be reassessed by placement
testing
- Schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor as a transfer student
for the new quarter at
Student Advising and Support Services in Kodiak Corner
- Register for classes. Students must
be officially registered in order to attend classes
- Pay tuition by the tuition deadline
- Get your books at the University Book Store
online or on campus.
- Get your Cascadia Student ID Card, E-mail Account and Log in at the
Open
Learning Center (OLC) CC2-060
- Attend classes

Non-degree Seeking Student - (Non-matriculated)
A student who is NOT seeking a degree or certificate at Cascadia Community
College is a Non-matriculated Student. Non-matriculated students may
register for up to 24 credit per quarter during the Open Registration period on
a first-come, first-served basis. Students must
demonstrate that they have met course prerequisites for any given course they
wish to enroll in. Non-matriculated students can demonstrate that they have met
the course prerequisites by providing college transcripts from an accredited
institution or by taking the COMPASS placement test at Cascadia or at another
college within the past year. Course prerequisites can also be met with
evidence of an earned BA or higher degree from an accredited institution.
Non-matriculated students who wish to seek an exception to a prerequisite
requirement must present a written appeal to the Dean for Student Learning in
the faculty support office CC1-154.
The Dean for Student Learning will designate a faculty member to consider the
appeal and render a decision.
Non-matriculated students have access to and are encouraged to meet with
Cascadia's Academic Advisors in
Student Advising and Support Services in Kodiak Corner and faculty advisors.
Non-matriculated students are required to complete the following steps:
- Submit a completed Class
Registration form with photo ID to
the front counter in Kodiak
Corner. Students must be officially registered in order to
attend classes
- Provide transcripts or test scores for prerequisites. Note:
Math assessments must be within the last twelve months. If math grades or
placement test scores are older than twelve months, the student must
reassess by placement testing.
- Pay tuition by the tuition deadline.
- Get your books at the
University Bookstore online or on campus.
- Get your Cascadia student ID card, e-mail account and log in from the
Open Learning Center (OLC) CC2-060.
- Attend classes.
Underage Admission
Cascadia Community College offers Non-Running Start, underage students (16-17
years old) the opportunity to enroll under exceptional circumstances.
However, students are able to enroll in only one 5-credit course their first
quarter. An evaluation will be done after the initial quarter of
enrollment as to the student's capability to be successful and possibly to
enroll in additional credits. In the event students qualify for Underage
Admissions, there is no class guarantee. It is possible the requested
class may be at full capacity or be cancelled by the college. To qualify
for Underage Admissions, students must complete each of the steps noted in the
Underage Admissions section online or to
request the Underage Admission packet call 425.352.8140.
Adult High School Completion
Cascadia's Adult High School Completion Program enables adults (18 or older)
to complete coursework for a high school diploma. Reduced tuition is
available only to those students who are 19 years of age or older who are taking
courses applicable towards their high school completion and earning their
diploma from Cascadia Community College. To quality for Adult High School
Completion, students must follow the required steps noted in the
Adult High School Completion Section online
or to request the High School Completion packet call 425.352.8860.

Space Available Waiver Registration (State Employee or Senior Citizen
Waiver)
Students who will register for class(es) using the State Employee or Senior
Citizen Waiver waivers
may pick up the appropriate waiver from Kodiak Corner (Student Services Center), or call to
request a waiver at 425.352.8860. All students are required to demonstrate
that they have met course prerequisites by test scores or transcripts.
Math assessments must be within the last twelve
months. If math grades or placement scores are more than twelve months old
the student must reassess by placement testing. All students using the
waiver may attend the first class session and inform the instructor of your
registration status. If there is space available beginning the sixth day
through the tenth day of the quarter students using the waiver must submit the
following to Kodiak Corner:
- Photo ID
- Submit the completed Space Available Waiver form
beginning the sixth day of the quarter to
the front counter in Kodiak
Corner.
- Submit a completed Class registration form
with the
instructor's permission by signature or a clearly stated e-mail from the
instructor for permission beginning the sixth day of the quarter to
the front counter in Kodiak Corner. Students must be officially registered
in order to attend classes.
- Provide transcript(s) or test score(s) for any prerequisite. Note:
Math assessments must be within the last twelve months. If math grades
or placement test scores are more than twelve months old the student must
reassess by placement testing.
- Pay tuition at the time of registration at the front counter in Kodiak
Corner
New students who are degree-seeking at Cascadia and who wish to use the Space
Available Waiver must matriculate by applying for
admission and meeting with an
advisor.
Senior Citizens - Audit (Space Available Waiver)
Cascadia waives tuition as well as Services and Activities fees for
Washington state residents 60 years or older. Students will pay $5 per
quarter with a limit of two courses per quarter (credit classes only).
Senior Citizens - Credit (Space Available Waiver)
Cascadia waives tuition as well as Services and Activities fees for
Washington state residents 60 years or older. Students will pay $10 per
credit with a limit of two courses per quarter (credit classes only).
State Employees (Space Available Waiver)
Cascadia offers tuition waivers for permanent state employees employed
half-time or more and to public school teachers and certified instructional
staff who hold, or are seeking, endorsement and assignment in a state identified
shortage area. Preference is given to permanent employees of Cascadia Community
College. No preference is given to other types of employees and there is equal
treatment of full and part-time permanent employees. This waiver is offered on a
space available basis only. Students will pay $10 per credit for the first six
credits, and full tuition for any additional credits (credit classes only).
