Cascadia Quick Facts

  • Cascadia Community College was approved for funding in 1994 in a plan that placed it on a shared 128-acre campus with the University of Washington, Bothell (UWB).
  • The college serves students in northeast King and southeast Snohomish counties, including Bothell, Carnation, Duvall, Kenmore, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Snohomish, Woodinville and many smaller communities.
  • Fifty-eight acres on campus are being restored to high-functioning wetlands, similar to those found on the site 200-300 years ago. This is one of the biggest restoration projects ever attempted in the Northwest. For more information visit: Wetlands
  • Cascadia Community College has been recognized as a pioneer of innovation, and is among 12 colleges nationwide who are participating in the Vanguard Learning Colleges Project sponsored by the League for Innovation in the Community College.
  • Cascadia enrolls approximately 2,700 full-time and part-time students in credit and non-credit classes each quarter, and employs approximately over 200 full- and part-time staff and faculty.
  • In 2004 the co-located campus of Cascadia and UWB received the Governor's Award for Organizational Learning and Growth. There were seven recipients out of a competitive field of 40 state agencies.  Cascadia and UWB received the award due to the success of the co-location in terms of its design and construction.
  • In 2007 Cascadia earned national recognition among community colleges in the U.S. with its appearance near the top of the list in Washington Monthly's recent ranking of "America's Best Community Colleges". In an accompanying article in the August issue of Washington Monthly, Kevin Carey notes that Cascadia places number two in the list of top thirty institutions, and in those measures correlated with student engagement and graduation rates--the extent to which teaching is "active and collaborative"--Cascadia tops the list.
