BOTHELL, WA – Cascadia Community College was honored to welcome a delegation of higher education administrators from North Africa and the Middle East to its campus yesterday. Representatives from Libya, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Palestinian Territories, along with their Arabic translators, visited classrooms, toured the campus, and met with faculty and administration.
“The American model of community colleges has been a valuable addition to higher education, and I’m excited to participate in an exchange that helps bring that model to the world,” says Walter Hudsick, Dean for Student Learning at Cascadia.
Delegation members were here to learn more about issues ranging from educating women and discouraging drug and tobacco use on campus to developing standards for admissions and accreditation. The trip was sponsored by the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program which is designed to foster global understanding through academic and cultural exchanges. For most of the participants, this marks their first visit to the United States.
“With deep appreciation to the U.S. Department of State and the World Affairs Council of Seattle for making this meeting possible,” adds Masaru Kibukawa, Director of the International Program at Cascadia, “The honor of hosting the International Visiting Leadership Program delegation creates an opportunity for Cascadia Community College to exchange information and explore partnerships that will enhance learning outcomes and benefit the students of our respective regions.”
