Cascadia Community Scholarships

Thanks to generous donations from businesses, individuals, families, professional organizations, and friends of the college, the Cascadia Community College Foundation offers many scholarships for Cascadia students. This page also lists other local scholarships as we become aware of them.

 

Cascadia Community College Foundation Scholarships

 

Applications for most scholarships are accepted once a year. Various scholarships have different criteria for applying and offer different amounts. Some have different application deadlines. Be sure to read carefully.


Easier Application Process in 2012!

Applying for scholarships is easier than ever! Only one (1) single, universal application and  one (1) essay are now required, no matter how many scholarships you apply for!


Step 1: Read the 2012 Scholarship Instructions and Requirements document carefully before you begin. Apply only for those scholarships whose criteria you meet. Applicants will not be considered for any scholarships for which they do not meet at least the minimum requirements.


Step 2: Complete the 2012 CCCF Scholarship Application and one (1) essay, and submit with your most recent transcript. That’s it!

1. Allister H. O'Brien Scholarship

Deadline:  Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:59 PM

$1200 total ($400/quarter for three quarters)

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college
  3. Be high school graduates or GED recipients
  4. Be pursuing a career goal in biological or medical sciences
  5. Be Washington State residents
  6. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Have overcome barriers in order to seek higher education
  2. Are employed and/or have volunteered or been involved in other ways in the community
  3. Demonstrate financial need

2. Anderson Tuition Assistance Grant

Deadline:  Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:59 PM

Value: $2000 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college
  3. Maintain residence in or have attended high school in the Northshore School District (Woodinville, Bothell, or Inglemoor High Schools or the Secondary Academy for Success)
  4. Be pursuing a 2-year degree preparing for a vocational or occupational career path
  5. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:  Demonstrate financial need

3. Bill Christopher Scholarship

  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college
  3. Be Washington State residents

6. Fred Jackson Faculty Scholarship

Deadline:  Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:59 PM

$1500 total ($500/quarter for three quarters)

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have already completed 20 credits at CCC with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  3. Be Washington State residents
  4. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:  Demonstrate a commitment to community service on or off campus

8. Ina Knutsen Scholarship

Deadline:  Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:59 PM

$1500 total ($500/quarter for three quarters)

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have completed a minimum of 45 college level credits with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
  3. Intend to complete a 2-year degree or transfer to a 4-year college or university
  4. Be single parent(s) with a child(ren) under the age of 18 living at home
  5. Be Washington State residents
  6. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:  Demonstrate financial need

9. John and Margaret Bock Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high School or college

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Are pursuing a degree in the sciences, math, or economics
  2. Have demonstrated academic success

10. Kirkland Rotary Service Scholarship

$1000 total ($333/quarter for three quarters) 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college
  3. Have volunteered or been involved in other ways in the community
  4. Be a senior at International Community School, Juanita High School, Lake Washington High School, or Lake Washington Technical Academy graduating in 2011 -OR- currently enrolled at CCC
  5. Meet all requirements listed in 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Exhibit academic success
  2. Demonstrate financial need

11. Murray-Sandford Scholarship

$500 total (one time distribution)

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college
  3. Identify as a member of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered) community
  4. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Have overcome barriers in order to seek higher education
  2. Are Washington State residents

12. Northshore Rotary Scholarship

Value: $2000 ($666/quarter for three quarters)

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college

13. Tjossem Family Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be or plan to be enrolled in 10 or more credits per quarter at CCC
  2. Have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college
  3. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Are pursuing a degree in the sciences, math, or economics
  2. Have demonstrated academic success but may not be considered to be in the top 10% of students academically

14. Woodinville Rotary Scholarship

  2. Have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA in high school or college

15. William C. Butts, Ph.D. Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund of the Group Health Foundation

Deadline:  Monday, February 20, 2012 at 5:00 PM 

$300 total (to be distributed at the midpoint of the quarter) 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be currently enrolled in Cascadia's phlebotomy program
  2. Meet all requirements listed in the Spring 2012 CCCF Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Exhibit academic success
  2. Demonstrate financial need

16. Nathaniel Jacob Allen Memorial Scholarship

Deadline:  Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:59 PM

$600 total ($300/quarter for two quarters)

 

Eligibility Criteria: This scholarship was established by the parents of Nathaniel Jacob Allen. You can apply for this scholarship if you are returning or have returned to school and are planning to get a degree at Cascadia.

  1. NOT have attained a high school degree or GED before attending Cascadia
  2. Be or plan to be pursuing a professional or vocational certificate or an associate's degree at CCC
  3. Meet all requirements listed in the 2012 Jake Allen Memorial Scholarship Requirements [DOC]

Preference is given to students who:  Demonstrate financial need

17. Complete Your Dream Scholarship

Deadline:  Ongoing

 

Eligibility criteria: You can apply for this scholarship if you encounter financial obstacles that may jeopardize your ability to complete 10 or fewer credits to graduate from Cascadia Community College. You may apply for this scholarship only once.

Applicants must:

  1. Be enrolled at Cascadia Community College
  2. Have 10 or fewer credits remaining to complete an AA degree 
  3. Plan to graduate from Cascadia Community College at the end of the quarter for which you apply
  4. Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher
  5. Be Washington State residents (see Residency Requirements)

18Woodinville Garden Club Scholarships
       
       Deadline:  Monday, April 16, 2012

      
       Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded in 2012


Applicants must:
 

Be pursuing further edication in horticulture, botany, landscape design, floral design, or environment studies.

Kirkland-Redmond Branch American Association of University Women (AAUW) Scholarship

Deadline:  CLOSED

This scholarship is for $1500 a year for the 2011-2012 school year.

 

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must:

  1. Be post-high school women, whose education has been interrupted
  2. Have returned to school in a 2- or 4-year college degree program at Bellevue College, Cascadia Community College, Lake Washington Technical College, or University of Washington - Bothell
  3. Reside in Redmond or Kirkland

Preference is given to students who:

  1. Demonstrate financial need
  2. Demonstrate how their future plans would be relevant to the AAUW’s goal of breaking through barriers for all women and girls

College Success Foundation Leadership 1000 Scholarship and City of Destiny Scholarship 

Deadline:  CLOSED

 

This application is for both the Leadership 1000 Scholarship and the City of Destiny Scholarship.  By completing this application, students will be considered for the Leadership 1000 Scholarship, and if eligible, the City of Destiny Scholarship.

Leadership 1000 Scholarship

The Leadership 1000 Scholarship Program is a program funded by individuals, foundations or businesses and provides college scholarships to deserving students who need assistance attending an eligible four-year college or university in Washington State.  A Leadership 1000 Scholarship can be customized around a general set of requirements requested by the donor.  Scholarships may be up to $5,000 a year for four-years for a total of $20,000.

City of Destiny Scholarship

The City of Destiny Scholarship Program is funded by the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities.  Recipients will receive up to $5000 a year, which may be renewable for up to two years.  In addition to the scholarship itself, students who are selected for this program will participate in a one week unpaid internship each year during college with the City of Tacoma or Tacoma Public Utilities to gain a better understanding of their future careers.

 

The deadline for both scholarships is midnight March 1, 2011.  All required documents, e.g. Recommendation and Official Transcripts must be postmarked by this date.

 

To be considered for the Leadership 1000 Scholarship students must be:

·          Planning to attend, or currently attending an eligible four-year college or university in Washington State.
(A student who is currently attending a community or technical college, but will be transferring to an eligible four-year college/university for the fall of 2011 will be considered).

To be considered for the City of Destiny Scholarship, students must be:

·          Living in Tacoma, or will be or already are, a graduate of a Tacoma public or private high school

·          Planning to attend, or currently attending an eligible four-year college or university, or community or technical college in Washington State

·          Pursuing a major in Science, Engineering, Energy Efficiency, Healthcare Sciences, Information Technology, or Nursing

 

In addition to the individual criteria above for each scholarship, ALL students completing the General Application must be:

  • A Washington State resident, (meeting in-state tuition requirements or eligibility for Washington State financial aid programs).
  • Enrolling as a college freshman, sophomore or junior in fall 2011.
  • Going to or have filed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), if eligible to apply. If not eligible to submit a FAFSA, alternative financial information must be submitted to the College Success Foundation.
  • From a family whose total yearly income for 2010 does not exceed:
    • Family of 1 - $39,000
    • Family of 2 - $51,000
    • Family of 3 - $62,000
    • Family of 4 - $70,000
    • Family of 5 - $78,000
    • Family of 6 - $86,000
    • Family of 7 - $94,000
  • Maintaining a minimum 2.75 cumulative high school GPA through the fall quarter/semester at the time of application, if applying as a high school senior
  • Maintaining a minimum 2.75 cumulative college GPA through the fall quarter/semester if applying as a college freshmen or sophomore student
  • Planning to enroll or actually enrolled full-time as a college student, 12 credits per quarter or equivalent for semester.
  • Please note: International students, students on foreign exchange or visas or out of state residents are not eligible.

Windermere Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: TBD 2011

This scholarship is for $1,000. Up to 15 scholarships will be awarded each academic year.

 

 Eligibility criteria in order of priority: 

  1. Demonstrate need
  2. Be involved in community service
  3. Be attending, or planning to attend a Washington college or university

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship offered by the Zonta Club of Everett

 

 

The Zonta Club of Everett will award one scholarship of $2,000.  The recipient will then have her application forwarded to the District Governor of Zonta for consideration for the $1,000 district award. 

 

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Be undertaking a business and/or business-related program at an accredited university/college/institute.
  2. Enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a Master's program at the time the application is submitted (applicants must still be attending school to receive this award).
  3. Achieved an outstanding academic record during her academic studies, including business-related subjects.
  4. Demonstrated initiative, ambition and commitment to pursuing a career in business.
  5. Living or studying in a Zonta region/district.

Women in Transition Scholarship offered by the Zonta Club of Everett

Deadline:  TBD 2011

There are two scholarships, each awarding up to $1,500

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Recipient must be a resident of Snohomish County.
  2. Recipient must have financial need.
  3. Recipient must meet the guidelines of a "displaced homemaker", someone who has been in the home and dependent on someone else's income.
  4. Recipient must be single, separated, divorced, or widowed, or, if married, the spouse has become unemployed, disabled or retired.
  5. Recipient should have a realistic career plan that would lead her to economic self-sufficiency and an educational goal to meet this plan.

Emerald City Business and Professional Women Foundation Scholarship

Deadline:  April 30, 2012 (postmarked by April 30, 2012 and received no later then May 7, 2012)

A $2,000 scholarship will be offered to a financially needy female student registered in a program of study that will advance her career goals.  In addiion, this year the Foundation is honored to administer the award of a $1,500 scholarship on behalf of the Past President's Assembly.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Be living in King, Kitsap, Pierce, or Snohomish County.
  2. Be entering or continuing an educational program in the field of study that will advance her career goals.
  3. Be in need of financial assistance.
  4. Have demonstrated a high scholastic ability.
  5. Complete and submit the application (7 pages) and all required materials by deadline date.

Higher Education Scholarship offered by TwinStar Credit Union

TwinStar High School Scholarship

 

 

Each year TwinStar Credit Union offers 16 scholarships to current year graduating high school students. These scholarships are $1000 each.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1.       Applicant must be a member of the Credit Union, in good standing.

2.       High school must be located within the Credit Union’s approved service area (Thurston, Pierce, King, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Clark, Cowlitz, or Mason counties).

3.       All application questions must be answered completely. (Please provide an explanation if a question is not applicable.)

4.       Application must be accompanied by a current high school transcript.

GM Women’s Retail Network Dealer Development Scholarship Program

 

 

The GM Women’s Retail Network (WRN) Dealer Development Scholarship Program is intended for women who are enrolled in undergraduate, graduate or non-traditional educational institutions that offer formal programs/majors/certifications in automotive retail and/or automotive service. The program is offered to help increase the number of women pursuing careers as a general/executive/departmental manager or owner/operator of an automotive dealership. A limited number of scholarships will be awarded for the 2011 academic year in amounts up to $5,000.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1.        Must be female

2.        Must possess a high school diploma or GED

3.        Must be able to verify full-time enrollment at an accredited automotive retail and/or automotive service program at the beginning of the 2011 fall term

4.       Must be a citizen of the United States or have the ability to accept permanent employment in the US without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

Washington State Home and Community Educators

 

 

The Washington State Home and Community Educators is sponsoring two $1,000 scholarships for two women, 25 years or older, who have a defined plan to continue their education to improve the possibilities for advancement or train for a new career. Special consideration will be given to women entering family-related fields.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1.       Women 25 years or older;

2.       Have a definite plan to use the desired training to enter or re-enter the job market, to improve chances for advancement or to train for a new career field;

3.       Have demonstrated a need for financial assistance to upgrade skills or complete their education for career advancement;

4.       Are Washington State residents attending a school in Washington State.

Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU) Scholarship Program

 

 

Washington State Employees Credit Union is pleased to offer financial assistance to students pursuing higher education. WSECU will award twenty $2,000 scholarships to students attending a four-year or graduate school in the fall of 2011 and seven $1,000 scholarships to students seeking a two-year or vocational degree or certificate.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1.       Applicants must be WSECU members. Membership in credit unions other than WSECU does not satisfy eligibility for this program.

2.       Scholarship recipients can use the award to fund almost any post-secondary education (college, vocational, public, and private).

3.       The student must attend school on a full-time basis in the fall of 2011, and the degree sought must be the first of its type (first Bachelor’s, first Master’s, etc). The scholarship recipient cannot defer the award.

4.       Applicants will be judged based on academic record, essays, letters of recommendation, financial need, and community service and activities.

Washington State Business and Professional Women’s (WSBPW) Foundation

 

 

Several scholarships are available through the WSBPW Foundation ranging from $500-1,000. A scholarship committee will review all applications. Selection of awardees will be made in accordance to requirements of the individual scholarship or grant. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1.  Woman student and a U.S. citizen

2.  Meet age requirements for specific scholarship or grant (several scholarships are available, see application for more information)

3.  A resident of Washington State for two or more years

4.  Officially accepted into a program or course of study at an accredited school in Washington State or enrolled in an "online" accredited program accepted by Washington State Education institutions

5.  Demonstrate scholastic ability

6.  Be in need of financial assistance

Bob and Eleanor Grant Trust

 

 

The Bob & Eleanor Grant Trust provides scholarships for first-generation college students studying natural or environmental sciences or social science with an environmental focus. The Trust can provide scholarships of up to $15,000 per year that are renewable based upon satisfactory student progress. The priority of selection criteria is: 1) need 2) passion 3) merit.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1.       First generation college students (neither parent graduated from a four-year college).

2.       Planning to become a professional in natural or environmental sciences or social science with an environmental focus.

3.       In need of financial assistance to complete college.

4.       Residents of the State of Washington for at least 24 months prior to applying. (Students may attend any accredited college or university in the U.S.)

5.       Entering the second year of a program at a two year college or will have attained junior status at a four year college.

Northwest Perennial Alliance (NPA) Scholarship

 

 

The NPA scholarship must be used at a two or four-year accredited college or university or an accredited trade school within the academic year following receipt of the scholarship. Applicants must be enrolled as matriculated students pursuing further education in horticulture, botany, landscape design, landscape architecture, or  environmental science. Funds may only be used for tuition and books, and are paid directly to the school that the recipient will be attending. Scholarship winners also receive a 1-year membership in the NPA.

American Society of Women Accountants Seattle Chapter

 

 

The mission of the American Society of Women Accountants is to enable women in all accounting and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional, and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of the profession.  Scholarships from prior years ranged from $1,000-$5,000 annually per student.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1 . Part-time of full-time student, pursuing either an associate's of applied science, bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or an equivalent designated post-baccalaureate certificate of accounting at an accredited community college, college, university or professional school of accounting located in Washington state.

2.  Completed a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours within four weeks of the application deadline.

3.  Maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.05 overall and 3.0 in accounting.

A scholarship for high school seniors through college seniors who plan to attend colleges and universities in Washington State for the entire 2012-13 academic year.

Silme Domingo & Gene Viernes Scholarship

 

A scholarship for students who are incoming (either freshmen or transfer students) to the University of Washington, quailfy for financial aid, and have an interest in social justice and human rights.
