UW Bothell and Cascadia College celebrate groundbreaking for student activities center
Bothell, Wash – The University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College campuses will celebrate the groundbreaking for the new $20-million Student Activities Center on Thursday June 5, 2014. The 36,000 square foot facility will enhance campus life as well as support the tremendous growth in student population that both institutions continue to experience.
The Student Activities Center, scheduled to open in fall 2015, is the second major student-led construction project within a three year period. Students from both institutions will each pay a net student activity fee of $100 per quarter.
"Students are excited to have this center," says Jared Trinka, Cascadia Student Government President. "It means a large common space open to students for studying, fitness, connecting to a club and increased collaboration with UW Bothell students. It will create a sense of community and enhance the existing relationship between our institutions. This has been a project five years in the making and it is exciting to see it come to fruition with an extensive amount of student input from both institutions."
UW Bothell Chancellor Wolf Yeigh says the facility complements his vision for the university, "Students are already coming here for an unsurpassed educational experience," he says. "My dream is for future UW Bothell students to also have a truly immersive experience on our campus."
With the new Discovery Hall science and academic building opening in the fall of 2014, the construction of the Student Activities Center, and several other building projects, UW Bothell is positioned to serve an additional 1,000 students within the next two years.
