Getting Started
Welcome to Distance Learning at Cascadia Community College. Distance Learning courses offer a unique opportunity for
those who need an alternative to the traditional classroom. Distance Learning takes a variety of forms: online courses are computer based and hybrid courses offer a mix of computer
based study with
class time at the campus while telecourses use DVDs for content.
Online courses offer flexibility for students who are self-motivated and whose schedules may not
match the schedule of face-to-face courses. Distance learning courses are not self-paced.
You will need good time management skills and have actual time to
regularly participate online.
If you have any questions
or concerns please contact the distance learning advisor Carri McDermott at
cmcdermott@cascadia.edu. You
can also reach Carri via IM during specific hours.

Helpful Hints:
- Remember to print out your professors' contact information. This is especially important when
you can't access information on the computer. Visit the Employee Directory.
- For Open Learning Center (OLC) hours, please visit: OLC hours
- To access "UW restricted" library resources from off-campus you will need to get a UWNetID from this page: http://www.cascadia.edu/uwnetid.asp. For instructions on how to use your UWNetID to access "UW restricted" resources, please see: http://www.uwb.edu/library/computing/offcampus.html. Note: A UWNetID
is not required to access "UW restricted" resources from any computer in the
library, Cascadia, or UWB.
- Inclement Weather: If the campus is closed due to inclement
weather (power outages, snow closure, etc.), then all online resources and
activities will also be suspended during the closure. Even though
you may still be able to access the server, assignment submissions, exams, and
online log-on requirements will not be required; the OLC will also be closed
during this time. You may check the
inclement weather page
or call the campus for updates at 425.352.8000.
