Energy Management Specialist Certificate

This Certificate Prepares You For...

The energy management specialist certificate prepares the student to enter the rapidly emerging field of energy management, with an emphasis on employment in careers including energy auditor, energy analyst, building technician, resource conservation manager, efficiency manager, measurement and verification technician, and system technician.

 

Energy management specialists emphasize energy conservation and efficiency while working in the evaluation, planning, design, installation, and maintenance of a wide range of energy-related systems and processes in new and existing commercial and residential buildings.

Upon successful completion of this certificate a student will be able to:

  • Learn actively and gain comprehensive understanding; to think critically, creatively, and reflectively in order to solve problems; to communicate with clarity and originality for personal growth and productive work; and to interact in diverse and complex environments and complicated, dynamic, and ambiguous situations
  • Work in the evaluation, planning, design, installation, and maintenance of a wide range of energy-related systems and processes in new and existing commercial and residential buildings

     

    Certificate Requirements

    Complete one of the following 3 courses:

     

    MATH& 107 Math in Society 5 credits 
    MATH& 141 Precalculus I 5 credits
    MATH 147  Business Precalculus 5 credits

     

    Complete one of the following 2 courses:

     

    ENGL& 101 English Composition I 5 credits 
    ENGL& 101T English Composition for Technical Writers 5 credits

     

    Complete one of the following 2 courses:

     

    ECON& 201 Microeconomics 5 credits 
    ECON 220 The Economics of Energy 5 credits

     

    Complete one of the following 3 courses:

     

    BUS& 201 Business Law 5 credits 
    PHIL 243 Environmental Ethics 5 credits
    PHIL 260  Business Ethics 5 credits

      

    Complete one of the following 2 courses:

     

    ETSP 120 Solar Energy Systems 5 credits 
    ETSP 130 Alternative Energy Systems 5 credits

     

    Complete all of the following courses:

     

    ETSP 101 Intro to Environmental Technologies and Sustainable Practices 5 credits
    ETSP 102 Power Generation and Conventional Energy Systems 5 credits
    ETSP 190 Documenting and Reporting Energy Use 3 credits
    ETSP 201 Environmental Regulations and Compliance 5 credits
    ETSP 203 Energy System Analysis and Auditing 5 credits
    ETSP 204 Carbon Footprint and Sustainability Analysis 5 credits
    ETSP 205  Energy Conservation and Building Retrofit 5 credits
    PHYS 111 Physics of Sustainable Energy 5 credits 

      

    Complete one of the following 2 courses:

     

    ETSP 197 Work-Based Learning I 1-5 credits 
    ETSP 297 Work-Based Learning II 1-5 credits
