This Certificate Prepares You For...

The phlebotomy certificate program takes 2 quarters to complete and offers an excellent entry into the health care field. As a certified phlebotomist you can work in private and hospital laboratories, blood banks, medical offices, and clinics, under the direction of a laboratory manager or medical technologist.

You will gain the theoretical background and skills needed for accurate collection of blood and other specimens using a range of hands-on procedures. Through classroom activities, lab projects, and practice in community settings, you will:

  • Learn how to collect, label, sort, prepare, and analyze specimens using applicable standards and regulations
  • Learn the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system and phlebotomy techniques
  • Gain skills for working in a health care setting and following emergency procedures
  • Develop the professional ethics, teamwork, and communication skills needed to succeed in an entry-level phlebotomy position

As a phlebotomist, you often can work a flexible schedule while still enjoying benefits and good pay. With more tests becoming available and the increased need for health care workers, the field is expected to grow over the next decade.
