Guidelines for Transferring to a 4-Year College

Transfer of Credits to Other Colleges and Universities

If you plan to transfer from Cascadia to a 4-year college or university, keep these tips in mind as you go through the transfer process:

  • Check the admission requirements of the college or university you plan to attend early in the process
  • Talk to an admissions advisor at the transfer institution or plan to attend an information session on campus
  • Choose courses at Cascadia that will satisfy admission requirements in your major field of interest
  • Check carefully or meet with an academic advisor a few quarters before transferring to be sure you will meet all requirements

Institutions differ in the way they accept transfer credits. If you are trying to transfer more than 90 credits, the transfer institution will determine how those excess credits may be used. No more than 15 restricted elective credits from the associate in integrated studies degree can be transferred. Your grade point average may be recalculated in accordance with the transfer institution’s requirements and policies. Changes in a major field of study or choice of baccalaureate institution may cause Cascadia’s credits to transfer in different ways. Meet with an academic advisor to discuss any questions you have about transferring.

Equivalency Guides

Many courses offered by Washington state community and technical colleges have direct equivalents at 4-year colleges. When you transfer, you will usually receive credit for the courses you’ve already taken. Colleges make the final determination based on their transfer policies. The following links will take you to the equivalency guides for some 4-year colleges in the Pacific Northwest:
