Name:  I was born Angelisa L. Turner. I go by Atlas Turner.

 Title/Position: CSG President

High school you graduated from (and city):

  Shadle Park High School, Spokane

 What are you studying?

I am currently enrolled in the Bachelors of Applied Science in Sustainable Practices program.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

My parents and I were touring the area six years ago before they moved to  western  Washington   from California. During that time, they mentioned how I  should go to  Cascadia. I  moved to      Marysville in 2013 from Spokane and  enrolled into the 2014  spring quarter.  I  made this decision  after researching urban  horticulture certificates  and deciding that I enjoyed the elements of sustainability, and the BAS-SP was in the  works.

  What are you hobbies/interests?

Roller skating is one of my favorite activities: I am a huge fan of roller derby. I spend a great deal of time checking out stats on the WFTDA page and watching the sport on the Derby News Network.

When I’m not roller skating I’m typically falling off a longboard at cruising speed, tuning my guitar after studying, watching the latest releases on Netflix, tightening my laces on the easiest hiking trail, or hanging out in the ARC playing foosball.

If I’m not doing any of these things, I’m posting screenshots of my mom’s texts on to Twitter and Instagram, snapchatting my little brother’s latest projects, or fighting over who gets to play Rainbow Dash during tea with my little sister.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

My plans after Cascadia are always changing because nothing is set in stone. Every time I think I might have a direct path or idea, I am introduced to alternative directions by the instructors at this school. The sky is the limit. Cascadia has provided me with a solid sense of self and confidence in myself to strive for a work-life balance. I have a feeling that I will be a lifelong learner, and it is all thanks to the amount of passion my previous instructors have employed here at Cascadia.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

There is a positive correlation between student success and student involvement. By choosing to be a part of Student Life we are choosing to be a  part of a community that has our success in mind.

It is a great feeling to recognize the faces of people we go to school with.

High school you graduated from (and city):

Woodinville High School

What are you studying?

I am studying Biological Sciences and Pre-Nursing

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose Cascadia because I heard a lot of good things about the college from my Running Start  friends. They said that the atmosphere is more “mature” and the people on campus, both the staff  and students, are friendly and helpful. My friends also said that they enjoyed their time here and  the morning commute is super convenient from where I live.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I try to stay as busy and productive as possible because I feel guilty when I don’t. I try to stay active by running, lifting weights, and playing tennis. I also  love reading non-fiction and watching sports. I treat myself by eating ice cream, gummy bears, and bags of chips while binge-watching Netflix.

What are you plans after Cascadia and how is Cascadia helping you reach your goals?

I plan on staying in school and going beyond a Bachelor’s degree. Whether it’s in nursing or the sciences, I want to stay in school because I LOVE  learning. If education was free, I’d be that one guy collecting different degrees and not doing anything with them. Life doesn’t work that way  unfortunately. Because I plan to stay in school, it would make sense that I get the hang of studying 24/7 and knowing where to get help when I need it.  This is what Cascadia provides, a place where you can get the guidance you need to establish a solid foundation. It also doesn’t hurt to have  supportive staff and a close-knit community around you.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

Getting involved in Student Life won’t only make you a well-rounded person, but it will also give you many opportunities to make friends, gain lifelong  experiences, and equip you with the skills to help you accomplish your goals down the road!

Title/Position: Director of Budget and Finance

High School you graduated from (and city)

 Jinseon Girls High School (Korea)

What are you studying?

I am studying Business. After transferring to four year university I would like to major in  Finance.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose Cascadia because few students of my nationality attended this college.  The  Korean advisor at International Programs introduced me to Cascadia, so I felt more  comfortable with this school.

What are your hobbies/interests?

Watching movies!  I usually watch movies in my free time, especially mystery or scary movies.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

My goal after Cascadia is to work in finance and build a successful career internationally. Cascadia has brought me many friends from different countries, so I  can get a deeper understanding of diverse ideas and the cultures behind them.  Additionally, it has motivated me to learn my major with helpful professors  and programs.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

By just getting involved in Cascadia Student Life, you can get some new experiences such as learning about new cultures, making new friends, and even releasing your stress from studying to make you refresh.

Director of Public Relations and Technology

 Name:
 Eric Dimitrovich

Title/Position: Director of Public Relations & Technology

High School you graduated from (and City):

 Inglemoor High School

 What are you studying?

 All about the Business…

In addition to general business classes for my AA, I am also studying Business Information  Technology classes in order to attain some certifications in that area.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose to attend Cascadia because I went to UW Seattle my first quarter of my freshman year,  saw how much it cost me to attend, cried, and then decided to go to a place that is less expensive… the fact that it is less than three miles from my house and has an impeccable reputation didn’t hurt.

Also I feel as if Cascadia has a quaint little “small town vibe” to it that I greatly missed at the UW campus.

What are your Hobbies/Interests?

Writing creatively, thinking clearly, pondering life, being an armchair philosopher, coming up with new ideas, all kinds of sports (especially soccer), DJing; specifically trap and high energy EDM music (follow me on Soundcloud: DimiTrapich), reading, meeting new people with similar interests, teasing, joking, having fun, watching documentaries and taking on more leadership roles; like this one.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

As of now, I am planning to transfer to UW Seattle (with scholarships this time) to attend the Foster School of Business. Later on, I plan to become an entrepreneur and open a few businesses; specifically in consulting or life coaching.

So far Cascadia has helped me to grow as an individual and attain a quality and affordable education.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

It is a perfect way to grow as an individual, to attain employment that is flexible, works around your schedule and truly understands that “you are a student first.” It also gives you an opportunity to have a voice and to actually do something about things you might want to change or do differently on campus. So I believe that the real question that should be asked is why wouldn’t you?

Director of Pluralism and Inclusion

 Zainab Photo

Name: Zainab Alhassani (Zay-nub Ul-hassanee). I also go by Z or Zena.

Title/Position: Director of Pluralism and Inclusion

High School you graduated from (and City):

I graduated from Kamiak High School in 2013 in Mukilteo. I never actually attended the  school, as I did Running Start my senior year. Beforehand, I moved from Marysville  Getchell High School – Bio Med Academy for two-ish years. I’ve moved a lot.

 What are you studying?

Right now I’m stuck between behavioral psychology and English. With the behavioral    psychology and/or English degree I am hoping to get a PhD and become a professor.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose to attend Cascadia College because my older sister told me when she took a  course at UW Bothell, Cascadia looked so friendly as if it were a small town. I decided I wanted to go to a college that felt like a community to  better my future. I do better in school and life with friendly people around me.

What are your Hobbies/Interests?

My favorite hobby is to dance. Whether I’m going crazy and look like an electrocuted octopus or swaying as if I’m BFFs with the wind, it really  makes me happy. Another hobby of mine is learning about new cultures around the world. I’m currently learning more about the Korean culture  – thanks to a close friend of mine who got me into K-pop and K-dramas. I get super excited and happy whenever I get to stay up until 6 am to  watch all 20 episodes of a drama; it’s instant regret the next day though.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

My plan after Cascadia is to transfer into a four-year university in order to get a Bachelor’s in behavioral psychology and/or English. After my  Bachelor’s I want to go straight into my Master’s program and finish it off. After my Master’s I would like to work as a professor and also study  part time to get the PhD. Cascadia is helping me reach these goals because if I hadn’t attended this college I would have never thought about  becoming a professor. Thanks to an amazing professor on campus I was able to figure out that teaching was definitely something I would very  much enjoy.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

I believe students should get involved in Cascadia Student Life because a lot of students at small colleges don’t believe that they have a voice.  I know I never thought I did at first. There’s also a whole bunch of fun stuff to do that comes with student life! Coming together as a community is  important to achieve big in our futures.
