High school you graduated from (and city): Inglemoor High School, Kenmore, WA (Go Viks!)

 What are you studying?

Currently I am working for my Associates in Integrated Studies, with an emphasis in Global Studies. However, after that I hope to pursue a Bachelors degree in Political Science and/or Political Communication.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose to attend Cascadia because I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to study when I graduated from high school, and I give myself some time to get my prerequisite classes out of the way while I figured that out in a small, intimate class setting and at a more affordable price before I transferred to a four-year university. I could not be happier with my decision to attend Cascadia College!

  What are you hobbies/interests?

When I’m not in class or working in the office, I enjoy watching Netflix (House of Cards, The West Wing, and Gilmore Girls are my all-time favorites), reading books (I own all seven Harry Potter books), and working at my other job as a barista. When I get the time and the weather is nice, I also like hiking and walking around downtown Seattle finding all the best coffee shops.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

After I finish my time at Cascadia College, I plan to transfer to a four-year university and begin a career in politics. At this point in time, I am planning to focus in political management, which includes things like running campaigns or working in a politician’s office. Cascadia has helped me towards these goals by giving me a sense of direction and also invaluable experience. I worked last year as our Director of Government Relations and got first-hand experience meeting with our local representatives, lobbying the legislature down in Olympia, writing and proposing policy changes.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

While I have loved almost every class I’ve taken here, I remain a strong believer that there is only so much that can be taught inside a classroom. My first quarter here was very lonely and I mostly just went to class and went home, like most of the students on campus. After joining student life, I found some of my closest friends and felt generally more comfortable on campus. Being surrounded by students who are also committed to their schoolwork has made me a better student and made my college experience more fun. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

What are you studying?

I’m studying to get my integrated studies in Cascadia to later reach my goal of becoming a lawyer.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose to attend Cascadia because it allowed me to further my education. Plus, it provided me with the chance to attend college and gain experience while being a high school student.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love to draw, hike, hang out with my friends and family, binge watch shows on Netflix, watch movies, meet new people and most of all help others.

What are you plans after Cascadia and how is Cascadia helping you reach your goals?

My plans after Cascadia include transferring to a four-year college and from there attending a law school. Cascadia is helping me reach that goal by providing me with college experience and practice interacting with a diverse set of people. This includes the professors, classmates, and people who I happen to meet on campus.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

Students should get involved in Cascadia Student Life because it’ll enhance their experience on campus by creating new memories, a chance to enjoy college, and an alternative to studying and stress.

High School you graduated from (and city): Jinseon Girls High School (Seoul, Korea)

What are you studying?

 I am studying Business/Accounting.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I chose Cascadia College because of the great faculty and good environment. I would like to recommend Cascadia College to people who are interested in studying Business. I met a lot of passionate and great accounting/business professors at Cascadia. Additionally, small classes allow me to interact with professors as well. Since Cascadia College shares the campus with UWB, we have the opportunity to access a lot of books at the Library.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I love to watch BBC documentaries, Netflix, YouTube and I enjoy working out in order to get rid of stress.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

I have a plan to transfer to a university after Cascadia. I would like to study Accounting in the university. I really appreciate attending Cascadia College because I have taken great accounting and business classes. These classes encouraged me to find my way to the future and build basic knowledge of the business field. I also learned diverse perspectives from a lot of my colleagues who have different backgrounds. That is a wonderful experience as an international student.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

I can definitely say that students should get involved in Student Life. First of all, Student Life is paid for by student fees so that we can help students get more information and we have to help students in order for them to meet their academic goals at Cascadia College. We exist as student leaders and helpers on campus. So please get information and benefit from Student Life.

High School you graduated from (and City): Woodinville High School

What are you studying?

I am currently studying business and I am working towards my Associates Degree in Business. After this, I will transfer to a four year university to get my Masters in Business Entrepreneurship.

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

I decided to go to Cascadia because it was affordable, and close to home. This school was also recommended to me by my eldest brother, who told me about the close community on campus, along with the caring and supportive staff at Cascadia.

What are your Hobbies/Interests?

Some of my hobbies are star gazing, singing, playing guitar and other instruments, as well as researching new topics, watching movies, hiking, and swimming in warm water. I love to go out and explore new areas in Washington. I love being outdoors and spending time with my close friends. I also like going to the theatre and improv shows in Seattle.

What are your plans after Cascadia?

After Cascadia, I am planning on transferring into either UW Seattle or UWB depending on which program fits best for me. I am planning on getting my Master’s in Business Entrepreneurship so that I can make my own career in which I become my own boss. This way I will be able to help the most people possible and I will be able to help my family go further in life. Cascadia is currently helping me reach those goals by allowing me to continue my education. They are doing this through making tuition more affordable and by showing me ways in which I will be able to achieve my goals like teaching me leadership skills and how to create an inclusive working environment.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

We are students first but sometimes we forget that we’re so much more than that. Getting involved in Student Life gives you a voice to make a change, get the full college experience and make lasting memories.

What are you studying?

I am currently studying political science and communications

I chose Cascadia for many reasons; my main reasons were because they offered the right degree and resources that I needed to pursue my career. One more reason was that they give students the opportunity to be themselves.

Director of Health & Sustainability

Atlas photoName: Atlas Turner

Title/Position: Director of Health & Sustainability

High school you graduated from (and city): Shadle Park High School, Spokane, WA

What are you studying?

I am currently in the Bachelor of Applied Science and Sustainable Practices (BASSP) program

Why did you choose to attend Cascadia?

The name of our institution influenced my decision to come here, Cascadia College is named after our bioregion. Bioregions are defined by natural characteristics created by our environment, it is a way to describe complex patterns represented in our local areas. Cascadia College is an intentional community, and has committed to intention through a shared governance model that incorporates ideas from students, staff, faculty, and administration into major decisions.

Cascadia College is also located on a wetland, and offers it up as a resource for learning laboratories. I love the integrated approach to learning, and being able to bring all of my skills to the table.

What are your hobbies/interests?

My number one hobby/ interest is sustainability. For me it is a better way to live, and very different from my upbringing. I am constantly looking for ways that I can reduce my carbon footprint, and lead a fulfilling life.

Bothell Landing Park and the Sammamish River Trail are where you will find me on my way to school, or on a day off. I longboard, roller skate, walk, or bike in the area.

On my days off I typically like to go to the Bothell Library to pick up new books, and walk around the community. Brunch is a big part of my Saturday routine, and I spend this time with family and friends at a local restaurant.

I also enjoy reading the Bothell/Kenmore Reporter, and catching up on local news.

What are you plans after Cascadia and how is Cascadia helping you reach your goals?

My plans after Cascadia are always changing because nothing is set in stone. Every time I think I might have a direct path or idea, I am introduced to alternative directions by the instructors at this school. The sky is the limit. Cascadia has provided me with a solid sense of self and confidence in myself to strive for a work-life balance. I have a feeling that I will be a lifelong learner, and it is all thanks to the amount of passion my previous instructors have employed here at Cascadia.

Why should students get involved in Cascadia Student Life?

There is a positive correlation between student success and student involvement. By choosing to be a part of Student Life we are choosing to be a part of a community that has our success in mind.

It is a great feeling to recognize the faces of people we go to school with.
