Fishbowl ProcessA unique Cascadia team experience that provides the opportunity for involvement from by all staff in the hiring process. The fishbowl is an interactive group activity that is task-oriented, which helps evaluators observe applicants (in mixed discipline groups) to obtain evidence that they would be able to work within the Cascadia Community College culture. Prior to the fishbowl exercise, applicants are oriented to the fishbowl process. This orientation includes reviewing the interactive group activity instructions and providing applicants an opportunity to ask questions. The fishbowl consists of the applicants sitting in the center of the room surrounded by college observers and evaluators (selection committee members). The candidates are given a task that they must complete as a group within a specific time allotted. Every fishbowl activity concludes with assessments. The assessment includes the observations of all college members who observed the fishbowl which are then taken into consideration by the selection committee. The applicants then debrief their experience with members of the Human Resources Office. This feedback, along with the feedback of observers and evaluators is used to continually improve the fishbowl selection process.
