Internships
Students at Cascadia Community College are encouraged to "learn actively" through service learning and internships. Our professional and technical programs require internships as a way of providing students with experience prior to their entering the workforce. Internships and service learning are increasingly essential tools for employment.
Vault Inc., a New York-based provider of career information and research, reports that:
- 77% of graduating seniors will have completed at least one internship before finishing college.
- 67% will have participated in two or more internships.
Vault Reports also found that:
- Upon graduation, students with pre-professional intern experience secure jobs at roughly twice the rate of those without internship experience.
- The percentage of college graduates with internship experience, at the companies hiring them, more than doubled since 1993.
- Graduate school admissions committees look for evidence of practical experience before admitting students. According to a recent survey, 91% of those admitted to law school and 94% of those admitted to graduate business (MBA) programs had internship experiences.
