COVID-19 Face Covering Policy

Cascadia College’s COVID-19 Face Covering Policy is in accordance with the guidelines and directives established by Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) for workplace health and safety requirements, and the Washington state Proclamation for Higher Education for college and university requirements.

All students, employees, and visitors – both those who are unvaccinated and those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 -- are required to wear face coverings in all Cascadia buildings.

This applies to all classrooms, labs, public spaces, hallways, restrooms, service areas, and study and gathering areas. The only exceptions are:

  • When actively eating and drinking in designated areas only
    • CC1-041
    • Stopwatch Espresso Cafe
    • CC3-121
    • CC3 Plaza (outdoor covered tents)
    • North Creek Event Center
  • For employees in private offices with closed doors
  • For employees in shared offices or meeting rooms with closed doors, upon agreement of everyone present; everyone should be fully masked in any meetings/interactions involving students
  • Employees who have made arrangements with HR for accommodations and students who have made arrangements with Disability Services

While face coverings are not required outdoors, they are highly recommended for all individuals in crowded settings where it might not be feasible to maintain distances.

This policy permits any type of mask or face covering as described by Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I).

Cascadia employees are able to deny entrance and/or service to students, employees, or visitors who refuse to wear face coverings or abide by posted physical distancing protocols. Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action.

Please refer to Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidance for use and handling of face masks. Wash your hands before putting your mask or face covering on. Ensure it fits snugly against the sides of your face. Do not share masks with anyone. If you have specific fit, training, or other questions on face masks, please speak with your supervisor. Several mask and face covering styles are available to ensure good fit.

Cascadia will provide access to face coverings for all employees and students. If you would like to make or purchase your own, the CDC has provided instructions on how to do so. The college expects that you will clean and maintain the face covering properly, in accordance with L&I and/or CDC recommendations and bring it to campus for daily use. Cleaning your face covering in a washing machine is appropriate.

Accommodations

Cascadia will work with individuals to explore reasonable accommodations for those within our community who may not be able to wear a face covering due to a medical condition, disability, or religious reason. Individuals may not request accommodations of the face covering requirement based on a philosophical exemption.

Employees requesting an accommodation for face coverings must contact Human Resources at humanresourcesandpayroll@cascadia.edu. Students should contact Disability Support Services at disabilities@cascadia.edu.
