David Buchthal, PhD
Dr. David C. Buchthal received a Bachelor of Science Honors in mathematics from Loyola University (Chicago) and his Master of Science and PhD in mathematics from Purdue University. He joined Cascadia in 2000 after working in various capacities at the University of Akron for 29 years, including Professor of Mathematics, Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. During his career, Dr. Buchthal taught mathematics courses at all levels, from elementary algebra to graduate combinatorics and graph theory, as well as courses in statistics and discrete structures for computer science. At Cascadia, his teaching focused on transfer-level mathematics courses. His pedagogical interests include collaborative learning and the integration of technology into the mathematics curriculum. Since his move to Emeritus status in 2012, he continued to teach on a part-time basis.
