What are the differences between web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses?
Web Enhanced
A web enhanced course is a face-to-face course that does not replace any face-to-face seat time, and access to web-based tools is required.
What does this mean for you?
A web enhanced course will still meet for the full course time in a traditional classroom space, but the class will have supplemental online components such as an online grade book. You’ll need to have a computer that can access the Internet (see here recommendations on browsers) and other web enhanced requirements.

Online
An online course is a course where 100% of the instruction and interaction between instructor and student is done online. An online course will use Canvas, WAMAP (math-based learning), lecture capture, or publisher-based learning management systems.
What does this mean for you?
To be successful in an online course, you’ll need to have a computer that can access the Internet, be able to work asynchronously for the entirety of your course. Asynchronously means that you can complete the course materials at a time that fits your schedule, however, you are still required to meet the posted due dates (example, you can do all of your course work at 2:00 AM, as long as you meet the submission time posted by the instructor).

Hybrid
A hybrid course is a course that displaces some, but not all, face-to-face class time with web-based classroom time. Examples of a hybrid course are courses that have meeting requirements for exams or courses that meet once or twice a week and all other course interaction is online.
What does this mean for you?
You will still be required to come to class in accordance with your course syllabus, but you’ll also get the opportunity to learn and explore course content in an online environment. To be successful in a hybrid course, you’ll need to have a computer that can access the Internet and be able to work asynchronously for at least part of your course. Please keep in mind, a hybrid course is not easier than a face to face course or an online course, but we do think that hybrid courses blend the best parts of face-to-face and online courses.
