I've taught English at Cascadia since 2000. In 2008, 2014, and 2023, I received Cascadia’s “Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Service” award. I have served as president of the Washington Community College Humanities Association and on the board of directors for 826 Seattle (a community writing center). I'm also the author of a chapbook—The Widows and Orphans of Winesburg, Ohio—and my stories and poems have appeared in various regional publications, as well as on Metro Buses and local radio. I curated the 2010 Jack Straw Writers Program; worked as a Scholar for Humanities Washington; and as a member of the Golf Pencil Group I volunteer as a creative writing teacher at the King County Jail. Before moving to Seattle, I received my M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston.
